Report: 2016 Scale ModelWorld

A big moment in the club’s 11 year history. Our first appearance displaying at Scale ModelWorld, widely considered to be the biggest and best model show in the world! Our whole year had been building up to this weekend in November, where we would cap off a tour of shows that had taken us from Poole in the south to Sutton Coldfield in the north, Milton Keynes in the east and Gloucester in the west. Everywhere we’ve gone this year, our Star Trek display has come with us, commemorating the 50th anniversary since it first graced our TV screens. Scale ModelWorld in Telford was the culmination of our year’s efforts, and it was a joy to join the many other clubs and SIGs, not just from Britain but across Europe in sharing in this fantastic hobby. Over the course of the two days we were inundated with people interested in the stand, with many stopping by to chat. It was brilliant to see so many people take an interest in what we’ve produced and a sure sign that the sci-fi modelling category continues to go from strength to strength.

The show was made all the better by the sheer number and variety of clubs and SIGs displaying. Club chairman Martin had two of his own models on display on the TV and Film SIG’s stand. We were very impressed by the standard and variety of work on show from everyone displaying. All deserve a huge pat on the back for producing such impressive work.

We were stunned then when we were awarded gold for the Best Branch Display! There can be no greater accolade than one that comes from your peers and so to come away with the best display of the show was deeply satisfying, and something we are very proud of and grateful for those who voted for us! It bookended our year perfectly, having won the same award at the Poole Vikings show back in April when the Star Trek display made its first appearance. A huge thank you must go out to the EC and everyone organising another great Telford show. To attend as a club displaying gives a different perspective rather than just as a normal visitor.  You’re able to get a lot more out of the event. We wholeheartedly recommend other clubs to consider applying for a table next year, and now we need to go away and plan for ours! See you all next year!

New shows confirmed to finish 2016 season

IPMS Middleton Cheney are delighted to confirm that the club will be attending three more events that will complete the club’s 2016 show season.

Chief of these will be our inaugural appearance at Scale ModelWorld in Telford on the 12th & 13th November. Billed as the largest model show in the world, we’ll be bringing along our 50 Years of Star Trek display for the two day event. It’s always a fantastic show to visit, so being on the other side of the table will make for a fun change and we’re all eagerly looking forward to it!

We are also happy to confirm that we will be returning to the Abingdon IPMS Model Show on the 1st October. As one of our more local shows, the shorter distance makes it a bit easier and we’re looking forward to supporting what is another great show for this year.

Finally, we will also be making an appearance at Banbury Old Town Party on the 3rd September. We’ll be rubbing shoulders with local, independent traders and it will be great to get back out there and show off what we do to the wider public.

With the Midland Model Expo and IPMS Avon’s show also to come, we’re set for a busy second half to 2016!
